Player
of the Week
Teamkong
Just because a player is not a starter, does not mean they
cannot have an impact on victory.
In fact, this weeks Teamkong player of the week is not a
starter, but he seems to always make the most of his chances.
Andy
Majors led the Gorillas to two key touchdowns, both quick
strikes after SBU scores.
In the closing moments of the first half, with the Gorillas in
control 21-0, SBU scored with 53 seconds remaining.
The Bearcats had, what they wanted, momentum heading into
the second half. But,
Andy Majors led the Pitt offense on a 49 second drive, ending
with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Mike Ward.
Then in the second half, Majors contributed in yet another
manner, and again after a SBU touchdown.
Leading 42-14 with 3:21 remaining in the third quarter,
Majors took an end around 65 yards to score on the first play of
the drive. He
showed his speed by outrunning defenders who seemed to have the
angle on the red shirt sophomore from Overland Park.
It also should not be overlooked that he is the holder for
kicker Nathan Alleman. On
Saturday Alleman connected on nine PAT’s.
This now gives Alleman nineteen consecutive.
Majors did throw one pass, and he probably wished he would have
taken the first Gorillas first sack of the year. It was
intercepted, and returned for a touchdown. Players make
mistakes, and this one will be a learning experience for him.
All in all on Saturday, Andy rushed two times for seventy-one
yards and one touchdown. He
was 6 for 9 passing for fifty-eight yards and a touchdown.
In reality it was another balanced performance for the Gorillas,
but Majors two scores at two different positions earned him the
week four players the week award.
