Player of the Week
Teamkong

He missed it by one year.  If he had been here one year earlier he would have been honored Saturday.  One of the best players ever at Pitt State, and for sure one of the best personalities we have seen in a long time.

You see on Saturday Pittsburg State University honored the best players in its 100 year history.  Current players were not allowed consideration.  Players like Ronald Moore, and Ronnie West don’t come along very often, and Aaron McConnell is that type of player.

He has made it a ritual at home games to go visit with fans after the pre-game meal.  Little kids love him.  Heck, he has been known to sing a few bars of Barney when a small child is around.  He never misses an opportunity to greet a young fan.  The fans love him, all ages.  Opponents hate him, but respect the hell out of him.

He knows his time at Carnie Smith Stadium is running short.  He played his last regular season game at Carnie Smith Stadium, and it showed.  His performance was dominant, and much more dominant than the stats show.

He had four tackles, two of them unassisted.  But look deeper.  Three of our four leading tacklers were middle linebackers.  These guys don’t perform this way if he and Mark Stephen don’t have superb games.  They did their job of keeping blockers off of the linebackers, which allowed Gary Smith, Josh Lattimer, and Brent Watson to a shine as well.

They don’t document “hurries” in college, but McConnell was hurrying the QB all day long. To put is simply, he did about whatever he wanted to on Saturday . . . even on offense!

We have seen it all year, when the Gorillas have the ball on the goal line #91 is in there.  We saw it more Saturday than we have all season long.   He rushed an entertaining three times for 14 yards, and one touchdown.  He also worked as a lead blocker and did it very well.

Enjoy these next few games.  Enjoy every play of all the seniors.  They are all special, and will be missed.  But this 6’3” 294 pound, backflippin, cheerleader, who oh by-the-way plays defensive tackle will go down in history as one of the best ever at Pitt State.

And for his spectacular performance on Saturday he is the Teamkong Player of the Week for the second time this season.
