Player
of the Week
Wayne

Teamkong
For the seniors, the trip to Grand Forks, North Dakota was not a
good one. It was
cold, and the game did not come out the way any of us wanted.
These
seniors have had a very nice career at Pitt State. They won two MIAA titles, made the playoffs twice, and
provided a lot of enjoyment for fans during their college years.
For most
of these seniors, Saturday is the last football game they will
ever play. Hopefully
a few of them will get a chance to further their career, whether
it be in the Arena league or NFL.
Coaches
always tell their players to play every game like it is their
last. You never
know when an injury can end things in a game like football.
But when it actually is your final game, its difficult,
and it will get more and more difficult over then next few days.
While all
of our players played hard, one Gorillas performance in
particular stood out as being outstanding, and for this Aaron
McConnell is the Teamkong player of the Week.
McConnell
showed once again on Saturday why he indeed will be a four-time
All-American. He
dominated the line of scrimmage.
He sacked the Fighting Sioux quarterback two times
himself. Keep in mind their quarterback had only been sacked
four times all year.
That last sack of McConnell’s injured quarterback John Bowenkamp
towards the end of the second quarter.
He did not return, and at the time fans thought this
would be a turning point in the game.
On the
day, McConnell was the Gorillas second leading tackler (Chad
Miller was first with eight) with seven unassisted stops.
Of course
he didn’t know it until the game came to an end, but he did
play his last game – as a Gorilla.
Aaron will get a chance to play on Sundays.
Now that his college career is over, he will focus on all-star
games and getting an invite to the NFL combine.
He is a
special athlete who gave us one last chance to see him in the
Crimson and Gold. His
performance was excellent, and definitely worth him winning the
Teamkong player of the week, yet again!
